Summer Regional Governor's School Audition Information
2010 Summer Regional Governor’s School auditions will be held Saturday, March 20th and Sunday, March 21st, 2010 at the Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy in Winchester, Virginia.

Vocal Musicians must present a piece of prepared music between 2 and 2 ½ minutes in length. You must arrange for your own accompanist in advance to play for the day of your audition or have pre-recorded music. Your accompanist will be allowed to warm up with you 10 minutes prior to your audition. If you cannot arrange for an accompanist, a CD/tape player or IPOD docking station will be provided.  This will enable you to pre-record your musical selection for the audition. There will not be anyone on site to accompany you. Another important part of the audition will be sight reading and interview questions.

Guitar Musicians must present a classical piece of prepared music between 2 and 2 ½ minutes in length. You will also be asked to sight read and perform scales and you will also be asked several interview questions. *You must audition with a classical guitar. It is also recommended that you bring your own foot stand or another type of support. One will not be provided for you.

Dancers will be asked to perform a 2 or 2 ½ minute solo of your own choreography. You must provide your own music (this includes completing any cuts or fades to your music prior to your audition!) and your solo may be in any style dance. Please note that every dancer accepted into the SRGS will participate in ballet, jazz, tap, and lyrical during the two weeks of Summer Regional Governor's School.   You must also be prepared to explain your solo and then you will be asked several interview questions.

Theatre/Drama applicants will be asked to present TWO contrasting monologues. Each must be memorized and each monologue must be less than 2 minutes in length. At least one of the monologues must be a traditional monologue such as Shakespeare.  There will also be an improvisational component and then several interview questions.

Visual Artists are asked to bring 8 – 10 works of your choice. Photocopies or slides are not accepted! Please bring at least one black and white drawing, one drawing in color, one example of painting, and a 3-D work. Please be prepared to explain your art work and answer several interview questions.

Instrumental Musicians must present a piece of prepared music between 2 and 2 ½ minutes in length. You will also be asked to sight read and perform scales and improvise.  Be prepared to answer several interview questions.  Drummers must bring their own drum set.

YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COPY MUSIC FOR ANY REASON DURING THESE AUDITIONS! Be sure you are prepared with at least two copies of the music you are auditioning with: one of yourself and a copy for adjudicators as well. Thank you!
